Wow, what a week. This week many of our preschool students joined our K-2 students for in-person learning. It is great to get our very youngest learners in the building! And of course, the announcement last night that grades 3-5 will also be returning to in-person learning is incredibly exciting.
Most people do not realize that on a normal basis, the Boulder Valley School District has about 300 students who do not have permanent housing. In just a matter of hours, on Dec. 30, three times that many students were displaced as the Marshall Fire destroyed more than 1,000 homes, damaged hundreds more and forced the evacuation of thousands.
Since the start of the second semester, we have seen a markedly higher rate of absenteeism both amongst students in our schools and our employees, who help to keep those schools open. As we previously communicated, the Boulder Valley School District is NOT considering implementing remote learning as an entire district.
